KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s shopping malls have been recognised for excellence in marketing innovation and sustainability at the PPK Malaysia Awards 2024–2025, organised by Persatuan Pengurusan Kompleks Malaysia (PPK Malaysia).
The annual awards highlight achievements in Best Experiential Marketing and Top Sustainability Practices with submissions from across the country. This serves as a testament in showcasing how malls are adapting to evolving retail trends and environmental responsibilities.
This year, 76 entries from 42 malls were received and submissions ranged from festive celebrations and themed events to sales promotions, public relations, advertising, digital media and community engagement initiatives.
The event was graced by guest of honour Tourism Malaysia advertising and digital division senior director Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, who is the VM2026 head secretariat who then presented the awards to the winners.
Under the experiential marketing category, the winners demonstrated remarkable creativity across different mall categories. Angsana Johor Bahru Mall's “Discover Johor’s Artistic Soul” won Platinum for its cultural showcase, while Pavilion Damansara Heights secured the top prize for its spectacular “Heights of Happiness” Chinese New Year diorama. Suria KLCC also took home Platinum by hosting Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2024, an event that generated unprecedented sales and visitor traffic.
On championing sustainability, several malls were awarded for their innovative and impactful practices. Design Village Outlet Mall earned Platinum for its comprehensive approach, which includes a significant solar PV system and an EV charging hub. Sunway Carnival Mall received the highest honor for its educational “From Waste to Wonder” campaign while Pavilion Kuala Lumpur was awarded Platinum for its multifaceted “Pavilion Loves Sustainability 2025” initiative, which successfully integrated shopper engagement with measurable ESG outcomes.
Judging was conducted by a panel of local and international experts from Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
PPK Malaysia president Phang Sau Lian said the awards reflect the dual role malls now play in the retail landscape.
“Malls are no longer just shopping destinations. They have become platforms to promote culture, sustainability and community engagement while driving retail growth,” she said.
Since its introduction in 2016, the PPK Malaysia Awards have become a benchmark for excellence in the shopping mall industry, driving innovation and raising standards across the sector.
