Industry leaders joined the revisitation initiative to evaluate past award-winning developments
As the StarProperty Awards marks its 10th anniversary milestone, a meaningful new tradition has emerged — revisiting past award-winning developments to assess how they’ve stood the test of time. This revisitation initiative, organised by StarProperty, brought together leaders from various professional bodies in Malaysia’s built environment sector to reflect on progress and uphold the industry’s commitment to excellence.
Described as a very good initiative by the representatives of the eight professional bodies, the revisitations were given the thumbs up.
For Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) council member Alvin Lim, the revisitation project acknowledges past achievements while encouraging a deeper reflection on how far the industry has come. “It helps us reflect on the progress of the construction industry over the last 10 years. It also helps promote the industry to pursue excellence in creating products for the market,” he added.
Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP)’ immediate past president Datin Noraida Saludin said the exercise comes at a time of greater societal sophistication and evolving expectations. “Today, there are a lot more challenges,” she said, adding that developers are rising to meet them by crafting projects that go beyond just housing — integrating landscapes and nature-based solutions to foster better living environments.
The initiative also resonates with stakeholders like the Association of Valuers, Property Managers, Estate Agents and Property Consultants in the Private Sector (PEPS) president Subramaniam Arumugam, who praised its accountability aspect: “It’s very challenging. It gives developers the sense that whatever they developed today is committed to their promises.”
Others echoed similar sentiments. “It is a step in the right direction and I sincerely hope more developers will participate in the StarProperty Awards,” said Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers (MIPFM) committee member Low Han Hoe, noting the importance of return reviews that keep developers honest and aspirational.
