PETALING JAYA: Tropicana Corporation Bhd (Tropicana) and hospitality group Accor have signed a hotel management agreement for Mercure Living Genting Highlands, integrated with the TwinPines Serviced Suites at Tropicana Grandhill, a wellness-focused precinct within the 596-acre Tropicana WindCity at Genting Highlands.
The signing reflects Tropicana’s transformation beyond development business into hospitality, recurring income, asset management and other sectors to strengthen earnings resilience and unlock long-term value from strategic landbanks.
For Accor, the partnership signifies a shared commitment to deliver high-quality hospitality services within a destination that enjoys strong domestic and international demand. In Malaysia, Accor is currently operating 28 hotels with more than 7,300 keys and a pipeline of 10 properties with over 2,600 keys.
Mercure Living Genting Highland follows a condotel concept, blending branded hotel services with residential comfort tailored for modern travellers. It offers homeowners the opportunity to generate returns through rental programmes managed under Accor and access to the brand’s global distribution network and loyalty programmes.
Scheduled to open in 2028, the RM1.06bil Mercure Living Genting Highlands comprises 1,443 fully furnished suites, kitchen and dining facilities, an all-day dining restaurant, executive lounge, multipurpose function hall, a heated swimming pool, fitness centre and other lifestyle amenities. The development has a take-up rate of 88% to date while construction progress has reached 30%.
Tropicana group chief executive officer Dennis Ng said the group’s business model continues to evolve for long-term growth.
“Our objective is to complement our traditional development business with sustainable recurring income streams that enhance shareholder value while strengthening the competitiveness and resilience of our townships. The collaboration with Accor demonstrates how global hospitality partnerships can unlock new value from our developments and create professionally managed lifestyle assets that benefit homeowners, investors and the wider community,” he said.
Accor Asia chief development officer Asia Andrew Langdon said the partnership is built on the shared values of mutual respect and commitment for long-term value creation.
“We are here to serve the travellers and unit owners with best-in-class hospitality management services and to offer the best return on investment,” he said.
Accor One Living Asia Pacific vice president Lachlan de Morton clarified that under the partnership, homeowners are offered the opportunity to join a 5-year rental programme, during which they are welcomed to enjoy the services provided at any time.
Tropicana marketing, sales and business development managing director Ixora Ang added the group will be similarly expanding hospitality-led developments across projects in Langkawi and Johor, with operators to be announced in due time.
Also present were Tropicana project managing director Loke Wei Feng and Accor Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, and Singapore development vice president Chris Cho.
