THE Penang Welfare Association For Mentally Retarded Children is getting a new school in Relau, thanks to the Penang government and Ideal Property Group.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the association had applied for a piece of land to build the school, adding that the approval for the piece of land was made on Jan 4.
“The 0.56ha plot is valued at about RM15mil.
“The land was given to the state by a developer and we are giving it to the special children,” he told a press conference on the sidelines of the state assembly sitting on Monday.
Ideal Property Group executive chairman Datuk Alex Ooi said they would be helping the association build their school which will be located next to SRJK (C) Aik Hua.
“It will be a two-storey building comprising a multi-purpose hall, 15 classrooms, an exercise room, garden and so forth.
“The cost for the constructionis RM6mil and the centre will also have a recycling room and a laundry room which will provide laundy services to the public,” said Ooi.
Ooi urged the public to donate recyclable resources to the school such as newspapers and plastic bottles.
“We hope this will increase revenue for the school and reduce its financial burden.
“This will also allow the special children to learn skills.”
Association vice-president Teh Beng Yeam said they were grateful to the state and the Chief Minister for the piece of land.
