TAMAN Ikan Emas in Bandar Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur is in dire need of a facelift, say residents.
Its roads are riddled with potholes, the drainage system is inadequate and the buildings look derelict.
In 2010, the Federal Territories Ministry had proposed that the area be redeveloped as part of the “Sustainable People Housing for Urban Renewal” project.
Six years on, there has been no further details about the project.
Bandar Tun Razak MCA chairman Datuk Chew Yin Keen said residents in three low-cost flats there – Sri Johor, Sri Pulau Pinang, Sri Melaka – and the Taman Ikan Emas longhouses have had to put up with poor living conditions for many years.
“This include leaking roofs and ageing sewerage,” he said during a site visit to the area.
Chew added that although plans for the redevelopment had not been approved, this should not stop DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) from carrying out maintenance work.
“These are problems that have persisted for the past 10 years.
“We do not know when the redevelopment project will take off.
“In the meantime, I hope DBKL will look into these issues,” he said, adding the list had also been forwarded to Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz.
DBKL Housing Management and Community Development deputy director Mohd Muzammer Jamaluddin said they would prioritise the work.
“As we have a limited budget, we need to study what needs to be done first, ” he said.
Sri Pulau Pinang Residents Association president Md Akhir Ibrahim hoped DBKL would act promptly.
“We have almost 7,500 units in the area. If the maintenance and upgrading work is not done now, it will only get worse,” he said.
