KUALA LUMPUR: The fondest memories for Genting Group chief Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay (pic) was the time his family spent at the dinner table enjoying his late mother, Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua’s cooking.
“I personally liked her ham choy (preserved mustard greens) soup.
“She was an excellent cook,” he said during the wake at the family’s home in Taman Duta.
He added that even now he often tried to order the same dish at restaurants.
Kok Thay said his father was often busy at work during the day and their times together around the dinner table were good memories.
“Every night, there was food on the table and we would share it,” said Kok Thay, smiling.
He said his late mother led a very full life and was a good wife.
But mostly he said, she was the best mother any child could have.
Kok Thay said his mother believed in giving back to society and raised his five siblings and him to do their best for themselves and others.
Although saddened by his mother’s passing, Kok Thay said he was comforted by the fact she was now in a better place.
“It’s been a tough three days. But at least she has joined our late father in eternal peace,” he said.
Lee, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday.
Among prominent Malaysians who paid their respects yesterday were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, former Inspector-General of Police Tun Hanif Omar, Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
Wee, who described Lee as a soft-spoken woman, said she led an exemplary life.
“She was among the best women Malaysia produced,” he added.
