KUALA LUMPUR: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia recognised 55 outstanding organisations, individuals and projects at the recent 21st Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA) 2026.
The awards received 276 submissions across three main categories, namely Best Contractor, Best Project and Individual, with 20 awards presented to 55 recipients. Eligible projects were completed between Jan 1, 2021 and Dec 31, 2025.
The ceremony was attended by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, his Deputy Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and secretary-general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim as well as CIDB Malaysia chairman Datuk Yusuf Wahab and chief executive officer Ahmad Farrin Mokhtar.
IJM Construction Sdn Bhd received the Builder of the Year Award while Gamuda Bhd Singapore Branch won the International Achievement Award. PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd adviser Tengku Datuk Abdul Aziz Tengku Mahmud was named recipient of the Prominent Player Award.
Among the major project winners, Sunway Square received the Best Project Award (Building - Major) while the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project secured the Best Project Award (Infrastructure - Major).
Farrin said the awards recognised industry players who demonstrated high standards in project delivery, safety and innovation. “Excellence in construction is not defined by the completion of a project alone but by the quality, safety, innovation and long-term value it delivers. MCIEA recognises the industry players who demonstrate these principles and set benchmarks for others to follow,” he said.
This year's edition also introduced three new categories: the Changemaker Award, Outstanding Young Contractor Award and Excellence in Facilities Management Award.
EPIC founder and chief executive officer John-Son Oei received the Changemaker Award for his contributions towards industry innovation and transformation. Meanwhile, YTL Construction executive director Yeoh Keong Yuan received the Outstanding Young Contractor Award which recognises emerging leaders aged 40 and below. Medivest Sdn Bhd received the Excellence in Facilities Management Award for its achievements in managing and maintaining built assets.
“As Malaysia's construction industry continues to evolve, we must build on these achievements by strengthening capabilities, embracing innovation and sustainability and nurturing the next generation of industry leaders,” added Farrin.
Through MCIEA, CIDB aims to encourage continuous improvement and promote best practices in construction quality, project management, safety and sustainability.
