PETALING JAYA: Berjaya Construction Bhd is set to undertake the design-and-build works for the Sanglang Port Development Project (Sanglang Port) in Perlis, complementing the recently completed logistics infrastructure comprising the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Free Commercial Zone - Perlis Inland Port (PIP) and the Chuping Valley Industrial Area.
The Sanglang Port official launch ceremony was graced by Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail and attended by the Perlis Raja Muda Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, Second Heir to the throne Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Al-Haj Jamalullail, Perlis royalty Datuk Seri Diraja Syed Razlan and Mentri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.
Berjaya Construction will be undertaking procurement, design development, engineering and construction delivery, working in collaboration with Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd (Mutiara Perlis), the owner and developer of PIP and Sanglang Port.
The proposed development comprises two multi-user terminals, a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) terminal and a general cargo terminal along the four kilometre trestle with water depths of up to 11.9 metres. The master plan also provides for five key maritime activities including RORO operations, fisheries facilities, general cargo handling, an energy hub and multi-user facilities.
With an estimated total development cost of approximately RM1.2bil, including the initial estimated construction costs of RM675mil, the proposed facilities are expected to cater to fisheries and international tuna landings, commodities, petroleum related cargo and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) activities.
“The Sanglang Port Development Project underscores the importance of investing in strategic infrastructure to support Malaysia’s long-term economic growth and strengthen regional connectivity. We believe that well-planned maritime facilities can unlock new opportunities for trade, industry and investment while supporting local businesses and communities,” said Berjaya Corporation founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun.
“With the appointment of Berjaya Construction as our engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contractor, they will focus on integrating engineering, procurement, design development and construction delivery, with an emphasis on infrastructure quality, functionality, operational requirements and long-term,” said Mutiara Perlis founder and group executive chairman Datuk Shabaruddin Ibrahim.
