SELANGOR: Puchong’s next phase of growth is set to receive a hospitality boost with IOI Properties Group Bhd (IOIPG) signing an agreement with Marriott International to introduce The Westin Puchong, the first internationally branded five-star hotel in the area.

Located within IOI Rio City, the future 100-acre masterplan forming the final development phase of Bandar Puteri Puchong, the 324-room hotel is targeted for completion by the end of June 2030.

IOIPG property investment chief operating officer Chris Chong said the addition of The Westin Puchong marks a new milestone for Bandar Puteri Puchong and the wider Puchong community. “Currently, our Hospitality and Leisure portfolio comprises nine hotels with a total of 3,075 rooms. Adding the 324-room The Westin Puchong and other upcoming properties would mean that we are expanding our room capacity by 907 rooms by 2030,” he said.

The Westin Puchong will complement IOIPG’s existing Four Points by Sheraton Puchong, expanding the township’s hospitality offering while supporting business travellers, events and tourism-related activities. The hotel is expected to feature facilities including a ballroom, meeting spaces and food and beverage outlets, contributing to the area’s ability to host business and social events.

Planned over a 12-year timeline with an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM12bil, IOI Rio City represents the final chapter of Bandar Puteri Puchong’s development journey.

The masterplan is anchored by IOI Mall Rio, a 5.5-level retail mall with more than 1 million sq ft of net lettable area (NLA) which is expected to serve as a key economic driver for the development, as well as a standalone 30-storey Grade-A office tower.

The Westin Puchong is targeted to achieve Green Building Index (GBI) Gold certification, incorporating energy-efficient systems, sustainable materials and operational waste management practices.

"The signing of The Westin Puchong further enhances Marriott International's longstanding partnership with IOI Properties and demonstrates our continued confidence in Malaysia's hospitality market. We look forward to creating a destination that supports the next phase of growth for the township while providing meaningful experiences for both business and leisure travellers," said Marriott International Asia Pacific (excluding China) hotel development vice president Andree Susilo.

Present at the signing ceremony with Chong and Susilo were IOI Malaysia property development group chief operating officer Teh Chin Guan and Marriott International market vice president George Varughese.
