PETALING JAYA: The Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) has expressed its appreciation for the recent announcement by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) regarding the revision of Sewerage Capital Contribution (SCC) rates, which is expected to benefit the property development industry.
Effective March 1, 2025, the new SCC structure introduces a five-tiered system, with rates ranging from RM1,000 for housing units priced at RM80,000 and below, to 1% of the selling price for units priced at RM500,000 and above.
Rehda views this as a positive step for all industry stakeholders, particularly homebuyers, said its president Datuk Ho Hon San. “It also reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to listening to industry feedback and ensuring sustainable development”
Ho highlighted that the SCC rate revision is among the many issues Rehda has consistently championed during its ongoing engagements with the Government. “We hope that the reduction will enable developers to ultimately pass on the savings to homebuyers. We also urge both the Federal and State-level Government agencies to review other contribution charges affecting the industry, ensuring that they remain fair and reflective of current market conditions” he added.
Rehda believes such steps are essential in fostering a healthy and sustainable property market, one where affordability is no longer a barrier for aspiring homeowners.
Moving forward, Rehda remains committed to encouraging its members to fulfil their nation-building role by delivering quality, affordable homes to the rakyat in a timely and sustainable manner.
