SUNWAY CITY ISKANDAR PUTERI: Two educational institutions namely Sunway International School and SJK (C) Cheah Fah at Sunway City Iskandar Puteri (SCIP) are charting a new educational future together to establish themselves as Sister Schools.
SCIP is one of the largest township projects with a gross development value of more than RM30bil, occupying over 1,800 acres of land, offering a world-class city balanced with the beauty of nature, making it a truly Nature's Capital City in Johor.
The agreement was signed by SJK (C) Cheah Fah principal Chew Lee Peng and Sunway International School (SIS) principal Craig Hugh Gerow. Witnessing the ceremony was Sunway Group founder and chairman and Jeffrey Cheah Foundation trustee Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey. Also present at the event were Sunway Education Group chief executive officer Professor Dr Elizabeth Lee, SJK (C) Cheah Fah’s Board of Governors deputy chairman Datuk Steve Chong Yoon On and Sunway City Iskandar Puteri chief executive officer Gerard Soosay.
“Through this arrangement, we are once again able to live up to our founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah’s vision and mission to provide good software (educational experience) and good hardware (building and facilities) in schools – that is only made possible with SJK (C) Cheah Fah and SIS’ support, effort and openness,” said Lee.
“The school’s close proximity, different curriculums and positive relationship provide a wealth of opportunities for more holistic learning. Capable of expanding the students’ horizon, promoting intercultural understanding, increasing global awareness and developing cross-cultural collaborations,” added Chong.
The sister school establishment is a natural progression in SCIP’s educational institutions and is living up to the group’s reputation as a master community developer that does not just build spaces but creates an environment for people to live, learn, work and play.
“It’s difficult for schools to collaborate. Even rarer when it’s between an international and public school that often seems worlds apart. Our Group is proud to bridge this gap that will give our children quality education, confidence and the capabilities to lead a sustainable future, through promoting inclusivity,” said Soosay.
Moving beyond the ceremony, this new sister relationship will take its shape in the form of cultural exchanges, language programmes, interschool games and teacher training. Activities that will see the growth of both students and staff – creating a tighter-knit community within the township.
Apart from Sunway International School and SJK (C) Cheah Fah, SCIP has in the pipeline several other endeavours, continuing to enhance its education component. A free, teacher-less coding programme school, Iskandar 42 is coming to the township together with world-class provider, Sunway TES accounting school. Sunway City Iskandar Puteri also plans on establishing a Global Learning Village – housing Sunway College and Sunway University enriching SCIP’s growing ecosystem. Essentially, building comprehensive and accessible education for people from all walks of life.
