JOHOR: Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG) has broken ground on the RM800mil Sunway Medical Centre Iskandar Puteri (SMCIP), its first hospital in southern Malaysia. Located within the 2,000-acre Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, the multispecialty tertiary hospital will have more than 400 beds upon its targeted completion in 2030.
SMCIP will offer specialist services in cardiovascular, oncology, neuroscience, gastroenterology and hepatology, orthopaedics as well as women's and children's health. An integrated Cancer and Nuclear Medicine Centre is also planned.
The hospital will have more than 45 intensive care beds and 130 ambulatory care beds, supported by over 80 consultation suites, 10 operating theatres and two catheterisation laboratories. It is expected to employ more than 1,400 healthcare professionals.

SHG president Datuk Lau Beng Long said the hospital would serve as the healthcare anchor within the integrated township. “As the healthcare anchor of this integrated ecosystem, the hospital will enable us to bring our clinical expertise, integrated model of care and commitment to service excellence to communities across southern Malaysia as well as international patients from Indonesia and Singapore,” he said.
Also present at the ceremony were Sunway Group executive deputy chairman Datin Paduka Sarena Cheah, president Datuk Anuar Taib, Sunway Property Group managing director Chung Soo Kiong and southern region chief executive officer Gerard Soosay and Johor State Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han.
