PETALING JAYA: A significant strategic alliance was officially signed between GreenRE and the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) to strengthen the adoption of green building practices and profoundly embed sustainability within Sabah’s rapidly growing property sector.
The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was formally signed by GreenRE chairman Datuk Seri FD Iskandar and Shareda president Datuk Johnny Wong Chen Yee and witnessed by GreenRE director Datuk Michael Yam and Shareda deputy president Benny Ng Su Pei.
The high-level commitment signals a clear, shared intent to ensure that Sabah’s development trajectory is responsible and future-ready.
The core of this collaboration focuses heavily on capacity building across the industry, noted Iskandar. The initiative will provide Shareda members with essential knowledge sharing, crucial technical training and increased awareness of modern sustainable development principles, he articulated. Critically, to accelerate adoption, Shareda members will also receive the powerful incentive of subsidised GreenRE certification fees. This financial support is designed to directly encourage a broader range of industry players in Sabah to pursue sustainable, energy-efficient and climate-resilient designs, effectively lowering the barrier to entry for achieving verified excellence.
This alliance reflects a fundamental shared vision to strategically support Sabah’s inevitable urban growth while meticulously safeguarding its unique natural environment. By promoting the GreenRE framework, which is one of Malaysia's leading standards for green buildings, the partnership is ensuring that all new projects meet global benchmarks for environmental performance. This commitment moves beyond simple compliance; it ensures that the state's progress is both responsible and deeply committed to the long-term resilience and ecological integrity of Sabah for generations to come.
