KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers (MIPFM) hosted the Smart Building Conference 2024 at Wyndham Grand Bangsar Kuala Lumpur.

The conference was attended by 200 members from real estate bodies, government and academia, with topics including the TRX smart building design, Singapore smart buildings, the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 and more.

Delegates were invited to the exhibition showcase from companies in the property and smart building industry.

"Today, the smart city scenario is changing rapidly. We're witnessing the rise of smart buildings with a symphony of interconnected technologies, where sensors communicate, systems synchronise and building performance data are churned out for property managers to manage buildings and building services in an efficient and effective manner,” Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh said.

He pointed to the necessity of a people-centred approach, prioritising the needs and well-being of the occupants when designing and implementing smart building solutions.

"Technology, particularly proptech, has changed the property management market by offering new digital ways of satisfying customers' needs and also facilitating the provision of quality property and facility management services to clients through Smart Building innovation. Accordingly, the transformation of urban landscapes into dynamic, responsive ecosystems will improve the quality of life for everyone. Sustainable urban planning, smart infrastructure, digital governance and citizen engagement are the enablers for the transformation into smart cities,” MIPFM president Ishak Ismail said.

“The technological revolution, the integration of loT, artificial intelligence (Al), and advanced data analytics is reshaping our built environment. This conference serves as a platform to explore these innovations, share the best practices, and discuss the challenges and opportunities involved,” organising chairman Low Han Hoe added.
