PETALING JAYA: More than half of The Star’s readers are Malaysians with a household income of above RM6,000.

They form the biggest category at 52% of the total readership. Another one third of the readership (32.8% or 459,000 readers) are those with household incomes of above RM8,000.

The statistics show that The Star has attracted the highest number of readers from these two income categories among all newspapers in peninsular Malaysia.

These findings are based on Nielsen’s latest survey on media consumption for the period between July 2015 to June this year which showed that The Star having a total daily readership of 1,400,000.

Overall, the newspaper recorded the highest daily readership of all newspapers in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya with 807,000 readers or 57% of its total readers.

The Star is also the most read newspaper among those with personal income above RM3,000, amounting to 502,000 readers or 36% of the daily readership.

The Star also topped the list in terms of dwelling types. Readers staying in bungalows, semi-detached houses, condominiums and luxury apartments made up 42% or 588,000 readers.

Readers residing in high security are also the highest, registering 509,000 or 36%. Of that figure, 299,000 of them or 58% are from tight security areas.

High security are housing areas with security guards at the entrance while tight security areas are housing areas that need permission for entrance.

Out of the 1.4 million daily readership, 51% are male and 49% female.
