The 2026 accolade recognises constructive reporting that promotes and elevates Malaysia's property and construction sectors.
StarProperty senior content manager Joseph Wong Fook Ming was recently recognised at the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) Excellence Awards 2026. The veteran writer, who specialises in property and construction, received the prestigious Outstanding Writer on Property and Construction Award.
The accolade recognises excellence in journalism, specifically for constructive reporting and promoting the interests of the surveying profession to the government, regulators and the general public. It also validates StarProperty’s core values of delivering trusted, insightful and impactful content—principles that Wong has steadfastly upheld.
Having joined Star Media Group (SMG) in 2019, Wong has been instrumental in promoting SMG’s role in elevating the property and construction industry’s benchmarks. He has done so through flagship events such as the StarProperty Real Estate Developer Awards, now in its 11th edition and the Malaysia Developers Awards, organised in partnership with FIABCI-Malaysia.
As a prolific writer, Wong’s versatility spans reporting, long-form features and high-profile interviews. This diverse output reflects SMG’s commitment to informing and educating the public by leveraging its omnichannel capabilities to deliver impactful messages that resonate with society.
Wong’s extensive engagement with the industry is amplified by SMG’s position as the nation’s most recognised media outlet, reinforcing the group’s collective editorial strength and quality. In addition to helming the StarProperty editorial team, Wong serves as the chief writer for the property section of the weekly StarBiz7, where he explores various facets of the industry through an accessible lens.
SMG senior general manager Jamie Ng noted that the accolade is a timely validation of Wong’s dedication.
“He is well-integrated with a solid foundation of industry knowledge, and he manages to balance various responsibilities simultaneously without losing sight of the big picture,” she said.
StarProperty general manager Mindy Chia added that Wong thrives under pressure and remains approachable at all times.
“Working with him means witnessing someone who truly thrives under pressure. No matter how demanding the workload becomes, he remains calm, delivers quality, takes ownership whenever improvements are needed and is always committed to doing better. Beyond his achievements as a writer, he is a creative and approachable leader who genuinely appreciates the people who support him along the way,” Chia said.
This accolade strengthens StarProperty’s commitment to journalism excellence as it continues to foster meaningful dialogue to elevate Malaysia's property and construction sectors.
