For some underserved communities across Malaysia, daily life can still be shaped by unsafe living conditions, ageing structures and homes that are no longer able to provide adequate shelter.
Recognising this reality, IJM Land Bhd continues to make meaningful strides through its long-running MyHome Programme, a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative focused on improving the living conditions of underprivileged families nationwide.
This year, the developer marked another milestone with the completion and handover of four rehabilitated homes across Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur, reinforcing its commitment towards building not only homes, but stronger and more resilient communities.
Initiated in 2010, the MyHome Programme was established with the objective of uplifting disadvantaged households through home rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts. To date, IJM Land has invested more than RM788,900 into the initiative, positively impacting 27 families across Malaysia over the past 16 years.
According to IJM Land chief executive officer Tony Ling Thou Lung, the initiative reflects the company’s belief that a safe home forms the foundation for long-term wellbeing.
“More than rebuilding homes, the MyHome Programme is about restoring hope and strengthening communities,” he said.
“Each home represents a family given the chance to live with greater safety, dignity and peace of mind. Through these initiatives, we continue to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of families who need it most.”

Improving lives through practical support
Under the FY2026 MyHome Programme, IJM Land focused on rehabilitating homes in several underserved communities by working closely with local stakeholders, suppliers and partners to ensure families received not only structural improvements, but also a renewed sense of stability and security.
In Penang, the initiative brought renewed comfort to a retired farmer in Nibong Tebal who had been living alone in a modest house for more than six decades.
The home underwent extensive upgrading works, including repairs to a damaged roof, construction of a partition wall to create a private bedroom and the rebuilding of a bathroom that was previously located outside the house.
Additional works included upgrading the flooring with cement render, replacing a damaged external door and repainting the home to improve its overall condition.
The initiative extended beyond structural rehabilitation, where IJM Land provided groceries and a coffee table set to support the homeowner’s daily needs.
Expressing his gratitude, 67-year-old Mohd Noor said the assistance had significantly improved his quality of life.
“I am sincerely grateful to IJM Land for their kindness in helping me repair my humble home. Their support has truly made a difference in my life,” he shared.

A safer future for an Orang Asli family
In Negeri Sembilan, the programme transformed the living conditions of an Orang Asli family in Kg Orang Asli Sebir, Labu.
Prior to the intervention, 29-year-old Razin Akis, his wife Lily Stella Hamid and their two young children lived in a deteriorating bamboo hut with a leaking thatched roof that became unsafe during rainy weather.
Even light rain often rendered the house uninhabitable, forcing the family to seek temporary shelter with relatives nearby or remain huddled indoors while waiting for the rain to subside.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, IJM Land constructed a new two-room home on the same site after the previous structure was deemed beyond repair.
Costing approximately RM80,000, the newly built home features reinforced structural elements, secure roofing, tiled flooring and quality paintwork. It was also furnished with essential electrical appliances, household items and furniture to provide the family with a more functional and comfortable living environment.
The new home now accommodates not only Razin and his immediate family, but also his two younger sisters.
Reflecting on the impact of the initiative, Razin described the emotional significance of finally having a safe home.
“Last year’s Christmas was the happiest my family has ever had. We no longer worry about the rain or centipedes and we can finally sleep peacefully,” he said.
“IJM Land has given us not just a house, but a real home, one filled with safety, warmth and renewed hope.”
Lily Stella added that the family previously lived without electricity and had no financial means to improve their living conditions on their own.
“We are deeply grateful to IJM Land for building us this new house, as this was something we could never afford on our own,” she said.
Restoring dignity in Kuala Lumpur
The MyHome Programme also extended its outreach to Kuala Lumpur, where two homes in Sri Sentosa underwent rehabilitation works aimed at improving safety, functionality and comfort for the residents.
The homes belonging to Tijah Haruh and Ismail Hashim received a series of upgrades that included repainting works, installation of new flooring, replacement of doors and lighting fixtures, as well as electrical and kitchen rectification works.
Additional enhancements included the installation of grilles and awnings, upgraded toilet facilities and replacement of damaged windows.
These improvements helped transform the homes into safer and more practical living spaces, while restoring dignity and peace of mind for the families.
Building communities beyond property development
The MyHome Programme forms part of IJM Cares, the company’s broader CSR platform that focuses on creating positive and lasting social impact within the communities where the developer operates.
For IJM Land, the initiative reflects a wider philosophy that community-building extends beyond physical developments and into improving everyday lives.
“Over the past 16 years, the initiative has positively impacted 27 families, helping them rebuild their lives,” added Ling.
“With the support of our partners, we aim to extend the MyHome Programme to even more communities across the regions we operate, from Northern Penang to Central and Southern Johor, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.”
By engaging subcontractors, suppliers and local stakeholders, IJM Land continues to foster collaborative efforts that create conducive and dignified living environments for families in need.
Through initiatives such as MyHome, the developer continues demonstrating that sustainable community-building is not only about creating spaces to live in, but also about uplifting lives and restoring hope where it matters most.
