PUTRAJAYA: IOI Properties Group Bhd (IOIPG) collaborated with Marriott International for a tree planting drive at 16 Sierra, a 535-acre lifestyle township in Puchong South, in celebration of World Environment Day on July 12, 2025.

The initiative aimed to enhance the community’s environment by planting trees that will reduce air pollution, provide shade and contribute to carbon sequestration. Over 100 participants, including employees from both organisations and volunteers from the community took part, with trees planted at eight locations across the township.

“We’re pleased to collaborate with Marriott International in this remarkable effort by choosing a range of planting sites across the township, we address areas which would benefit the most from greenification efforts,” said 16 Sierra general manager Calvin Sew.

He added that the initiative aligns with the IOI Sustain Roadmap 2030, aiming to improve the environmental ecosystem and community well-being while emphasising IOIPG and Marriott International's commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

The tree species planted included Aquilara malaccensis (Gaharu) and Mangifera caesia (Binjai), categorised as critically endangered and near threatened respectively. The event also supported SDG11 (sustainable cities and communities, SDG13 (climate action), SDG15 (life on land) and SDG17 (partnership for the goals) of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

“We are proud to join hands with IOI Properties. This effort raises awareness for greener business approaches and benefits both 16 Sierra and the broader community,” said Marriott Worldwide Business Councils Malaysia sustainability chair Christopher Moore.

The tree-planting event will enhance the quality of life for residents in 16 Sierra, which includes a range of residential properties and COVO, IOIPG’s first GreenRE-certified residential project.
