LESS than 3% of Indians in Kuala Lumpur have taken up affordable housing units under the Federal Territories Housing Scheme (Rumawip).
Kuala Lumpur City Hall advisory board member Datuk S.Rajah felt that lack of awareness was the reason behind the low take-up rates.
“There is a 10% quota for Indians but most times it is not filled and the units have to be released to other buyers,” he said.
Rajah, who is also Federal Territories MIC secretary, said an awareness programme would be organised on March 25.
“There will be project developers and banking agents there to make it easier for people to buy the units.
“Those who may not be eligible for bank loans can also try applying for the special fund under the Federal Territories Foundation,” he said.
The RM50mil fund is aimed at helping first-time owners who qualify for the housing schemes but are unable to obtain loans.
The programme will be held from 9am to 2pm, at the MIC Headquarters, Menara Manickavasagam, No. 1, Jalan Rahmat, Kuala Lumpur.
