TWO hundred children can now sleep soundly as Australian home furnishing store Harvey Norman gave away 200 new mattresses to five welfare homes in conjunction with its 12th International Brands Bedding Fair 2016.

Held at IPC Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, Harvey Norman Malaysia and Singapore managing director Kenneth Aruldoss said it is important for business players to contribute to society.

“We owe our success to the public for their loyalty and support. When they are in need, it’s only proper that we support them,” said Aruldoss, adding that the retailer was prepared to help more charity organisations

This year’s recipients were Rumah Victory Children and Youth Home, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, Beautiful Gates Foundation, Pusat Jagaan Insan Istimewa and Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation.

Ongoing until Sunday, the fair will be showcasing the latest mattresses from renowned brands such as Sealy, Napure, Hilker, Therapedic and Englander.

For great savings, Harvey Norman is offering shoppers the Reduction of Recommended Retail Price of Bedding Products; one of the key highlights of the fair, where everything is going at half price with an additional 10% discount with the purchase of two items or more.

On top of that, the retailer will also be giving out free petrol vouchers worth RM200 with every purchase of RM5,000, three years’ warranty on mattress fabrics and free disposal service of old mattresses and beds.

In his speech at the event, International Trade and Industry Minister II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said total trade in 2015 was nearly RM1.5tril, a steady growth of 1.2% while exports rose 1.9% to RM780bil.

“This year we are expecting trade to increase by about 2%. Interestingly, the bedding segment has contributed strongly to Malaysia’s overall exports with the export of mattresses reported at RM300.2mil last year compared with RM282.8mil in 2014.

“In the coming years, I am confident that the bedding segment will benefit and I am hopeful that Malaysian manufacturers will further diversify and expand to other new and emerging markets,” said Ong.

He also urged business players to take advantage of the incentives provided by the Government to further increase mattress manufacturers’ competitiveness in Malaysia.

In an effort to reach out to more Malaysians, Harvey Norman will be opening stores in Malacca, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak in the near future.
