Residents say the road island constructed at the entrance to the Taman Jaya lake is not suitable and could endanger motorists. The island has encroached to the main road and motorists unfamiliar to the ill design may be caught off guard.
THE one-way-loop project (OWL) in Petaling Jaya is 83% complete.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the project was on schedule and expected to be completed on Aug 31.
Mohd Azizi said the contractor informed him that the project could be completed as early as end of July.
However, the council would only audit the project after it is fully completed.
“If these utility companies can complete on time, the OWL project should be completed as planned,” he said.
The utility companies are carrying out works at Jalan Timur near the Taman Jaya park as well as along Jalan Utara.
As for the OWL project, touch-up work is being carried out on the kerb.
The sheltered walkways have been constructed and clean-up of road medians is taking place.
The scupper drains are also being constructed.
Meanwhile Section 12 resident, David Foo, said the island constructed at the entrance to the Taman Jaya lake was not suitable and could pose danger to motorists.
He said the island has encroached to the main road.
He fears motorists unfamiliar with the ill-design may be caught off-guard.
Section 14 resident, Andre D. D’Cruz, said the road kerbs should be painted to indicate that it exists to motorists of its existence.
It is not noticeable at night.
“My mother drives to church before sunrise.
“She has told me many times that she could not see the road kerbs because they were not marked.
“I urge the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to light up the loop and Jalan Kemajuan.
“It has been many months that these roads were in darkness.
“I have lodged reports. After they are repaired, it will be lit for few weeks before breaking down again,” he said.
On a another issue, MBPJ said it has allocated RM30mil this year to resurface council roads.
The council is responsible for 1,300km stretch of roads in the city.
The allocation is for 31 projects planned for this year; out of which 17 were completed and 13 others are under progress or being tendered for.
The resurfacing project is being carried out in parts of Jalan Universiti, Jalan Gasing, Persiaran Cemara, Persiaran Industri Sri Damansara, Persiaran Mahogani and Kota Damansara.
Selected roads in areas such as SS1, SS3, SS21, SS26, Section 20. Section 21, PJU1, PJS1, PJS2 and PJS6 will also be resurfaced.
The job scope consists of mill and pave and includes resurfacing of house and entrances of premises.
The council would issue a notice about two days before to affected residents before the resurfacing works start.
To ensure the job quality is up to the mark, the MBPJ will carry out the coring test.
In case the quality of work is found unsuitable, the contractor will be directed to redo the work.
