PETALING JAYA: Property developer Malton Bhd (Malton) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Dongguan Benling Vehicle Technology Co Ltd (BENLG) to explore the viability of establishing a local assembly plant and distribution ecosystem for electric motorcycles in Malaysia.
Through this collaboration, BENLG is seeking to establish an assembly hub in Malaysia as a gateway to the wider ASEAN electric two-wheeler market. Malton, in turn, is exploring this venture as part of its ongoing diversification strategy into industries aligned with national development policies in industrialisation, electrification and sustainable transport.
BENLG currently operates major production bases in Tianjin, Wuxi and Taizhou, China. The company also has branches in India, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
Under the MoU, Malton and BENLG will commence joint feasibility studies to determine the commercial viability of a local assembly facility. This process will involve a comprehensive analysis of market demand in Malaysia and the wider Southeast Asian region, alongside the identification of strategic industrial sites suitable for assembling EV motorcycles for both domestic use and export.
