The development by Green Ventures Capital (GVC), a unit of Wawasan Qi Properties Group (WQIP), is on a 10.5ha site, and comprises a university hospital, three-block condominium, retail spaces, 1,500-capacity convention hall and hotel.

“The Universiti Hospital will be a public and private hospital, just like the Hospital Universiti in Kuala Lumpur.

“It will have around 800 beds, including 600 for the public and 200 private beds,” he told reporters after the groundbreaking in Ipoh on Friday.

Qi City would create an ecosystem that could stimulate the economy of Bandar Raya Ipoh in particular and Perak in general, being part of the state government’s strategy to make Perak a medical tourism centre, he said.

“We have identified several areas to build a private hospital. The state government will also develop Bandar Universiti in Seri Iskandar, and we want to make Perak an educational and medical hub by providing the facilities not only for the people of Perak but also for anyone in the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, QI Group executive chairman Datuk Seri Vijay Eswaran said Qi City would not only catalyse Ipoh’s future economic growth but the educational and medical facilities could also help Malaysia enhance its relations with other Asean countries.

“We believe in the future of Perak, we need a government that sees the future alongside with us. This is only the first phase, we intend to continue to develop a university township.

“At this point in time, there are lot of rational economic and business decisions why we wish to continue, so we rely very heavily on the management and leadership of this state,” he said. - Bernama
