PETALING JAYA: The International Real Estate Federation Malaysian Chapter's (FIABCI-Malaysia) star-studded gala dinner, which was the culmination of its Malaysia Property Awards (MPA) 2022, saw the nation's leading property developers gather to honour the award winners and notable individuals in the industry.

A total of 14 property developers, along with two distinguished recipients, received their respective trophies during the event that was graced by Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam at One World Hotel on March 18.

Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd group managing director Ho Kong Soon was awarded the Property CEO while See Hoy Chan Holdings Group executive director and chief executive officer Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok took the Property Man award.

SkyWorld Development Bhd's Sky Awani 2 Residences won the affordable housing award while Menara Hap Seng 3 by Hap Seng Land Sdn Bhd stood out in the office category. Rumah Tangsi (Lot 10) and Kuala Lumpur Tourism Bureau (Lot 11) by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and Seetizens Lab Sdn Bhd won the heritage category.

Winners in the industrial category were i-Park @ Senai Airport City by iPark Development Sdn Bhd and Hap Seng Business Park by Hap Seng Land. The master plan category was won by Sime Darby Property (City of Elmina) Sdn Bhd for City of Elmina and SP Setia Bhd for Setia Eco Templer. In the mixed-use development category, Tujuan Gemilang Sdn Bhd won with its Tamarind Square project.

There were two winners for the purpose-built category - Encomas Sdn Bhd with its Encomas House and Bandar Utama City Sdn Bhd for its Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre. SP Setia won its second trophy via the residential high-rise category for Setia V Residences while Exsim Development Sdn Bhd took the same title for The Rainz @ Bukit Jalil.

Sime Darby Property (Ara Damansara) Sdn Bhd won the residential mid-rise category with Cantara Residences. SP Setia also won the sustainable development category for D’Network @ Setia Eco Park.

FIABCI-Malaysia president Datuk Firdaus Musa said the Malaysia Property Awards is the most coveted accolade in the property development industry and is considered the Oscars of property awards in Malaysia.

“The awards are highly sought after as a rigorous evaluation is being done, which gives credibility to winners,” he said.

Firdaus stressed the importance of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) policies and to continue to incorporate more of these features in future property development projects.

With the world becoming increasingly conscious of the need to protect the environment and with a carbon-free policy by 2030, the property industry must take a leading role in these efforts to ensure the industry’s long-term viability, sustainability and success, he added.

In his acceptance speech, Ho said his business philosophy emphasises the value of teamwork, allowing each group member to succeed and that there can be no individuality in the team.

“There are no shortcuts in anything you do. Therefore, every step of the strategy is essential, and the key to success is perseverance, positive thinking, and facing challenges,” he said.

Meanwhile, Teo said the stringent evaluation process of the award reflects the highest standards of professionalism, and the award held a special meaning for him.
