The Precinct Arudina show unit

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspired by the Arundina Suria orchid, property developer SP Setia Bhd has taken it a step further in using the flower as an emphasis in designing Precinct Arudina in Setia Eco Park, Setia Alam.

A move that won the developer the Best Technology Commercialisation Award 2019 from Malaysia Agriculture Research and Development Institute (Mardi) recently for the commercialisation of the orchid.

The precinct revolves around the orchid, a hybrid between two Arundina species from Vietnam and India, which was introduced by Mardi’s horticulture department.

The semi-miniature plant is heat-tolerant, has low maintenance, flowers throughout the year and has compact-plant architecture characteristics.

SP Setia senior executive vice president, Datuk Koe Peng Kang said, “We are honoured to be the first private organisation to receive this recognition from Mardi. 

There are 30 pocket gardens in the precinct.

“At Setia, we are always on the lookout for the best ecological advancement that can benefit the communities that we are in. Hence, when we heard of the Arundina orchids, we wanted to showcase it in our luxurious development, Setia Eco Park.”

SP Setia not only planted the orchid all around the 73-acre development which has an estimated gross development value of RM660mil, but also designed the homes in the colours of the orchid in the different phases. 

For example, Plathea in phase 1 followed the orchid’s white shade, Goldea in phase 2 followed its gold hue and Amethea in phase 3 followed its purple shade.

Launched in June 2019, the development consists of 430 units of semi-detached homes and features a central park and 30 pocket gardens. With a modern English design architecture, the first phase of the development is to be completed in 2022. 

The land sizes are 32’x75’ or 38’x70’, with built-ups from 2,495 sq ft to 2,833 sq ft and prices ranging from RM1.3mil.
