Taman Mutiara Rini may be a guarded community but this does not stop petty crimes from happening within the neighborhood. Even some schools were burgled twice in 3 months. SJK(C) Thorburn was burgled 2 times within a span of 3 months and this was discovered by a teacher when he noticed that the iron grille gate and the school administration door were left open. He immediately head straight to the office only to find the place ransacked and 2 units of laptops and a projector was found missing in the most recent break-in case. There were also of break-ins and robberies around the neighborhood of Taman Mutiara Rini. Some of the cases were highlighted in the media such as 2 Indian robbers were shot dead by police officers at the Pasar Taman Johor and the 2 robbers were believed to be involved in at least 15 robbery cases happened in the other neighborhoods in Skudai.
