NO new licence will be approved for entertainment outlets in Selangor.
State local government committee chairman Ronnie Liu told the assembly that all such licences had been frozen since 2008.
“We are not approving new applications in a move to prevent the mushrooming of such outlets in the state. We have even fined some outlets up to RM50,000 for not having licences,’’ he said in response to a question from Dr Abd Rani Osman (PR-Meru).
Dr Rani had asked why no drastic action, including terminating water and electricity supply, were taken against errant operators of entertainment outlets.
Liu said the state was constantly carrying out joint raids on entertainment outlets with the cooperation of the police, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).
He said the local authorities had conducted more than 900 such raids so far this year.
“We find it difficult to terminate electricity supply at premises found flouting licensing conditions because the district OCPD’s approval is needed to enable us to do so.
“However, we will continue to carry out enforcement raids on outlets and will not hesitate to haul them to court,’’ he said.
At this juncture, Dr Nasir Hashim (PR-Kota Damansara) interrupted, asking if there was any truth in the claims that the local authorities did not get the cooperation of the police.
Liu said it was true in certain districts only.
“In other districts the situation is not so bad.”
He said there were areas where the police had been working very closely with the local authorities.
“The state will seek a meeting with the new Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and Selangor police to find a solution to the problem. We want a good rapport with all the government agencies including the police,’’ he said.
