Traffic impact a major worry among Kelana Jaya residents

TRAFFIC impact around the construction site for The Paradigm project remains to be a major concern among residents in SS7, Kelana Jaya.

At a briefing recently, WCT Land Sdn Bhd project manager Kuek Yong Huei assured residents that the developer had looked into the traffic in the area before coming up with the plan.

Kuek spoke to residents and representatives from Taman Kelana Indah, Kelana Mahkota, Taman Seri Kelana, Kelana D’Putra, Kelana Putri, Tiara Kelana Condominium and Condominium Shang Villa on the traffic management plan on Jalan SS7/26 and Jalan Bahagia.

For the first stage of the plan, Kuek said Jalan Bahagia would be widened before work to build a 280m tunnel takes place in the second stage.

In the final stage, Kuek said they would then link Jalan Bahagia and Jalan SS7/26 to the completed two-way tunnel.

“Residents accessing Jalan SS7/26 wil not be affected at all, as the construction would concentrate mostly on Jalan Bahagia, so they don’t have to worry.

“The U-turn in front of the Shell station on the LDP is not affected,” said Kuek when questioned by a concerned resident.

Besides traffic, residents were also briefed on the landscape work along Jalan Bahagia and the type of trees that would be planted along the pedestrian walkway during the 16-month project which is scheduled to be completed in July 2011.

The Paradigm is a commercial development comprising three office towers and a shopping centre on a 5ha land.

Residents also took the chance to highlight other problems in the area as the meeting was also attended by officers from Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Alam Flora and Kelana Jaya chief inspector Zakaria Zainal.

Among the issues brought up by SS7 Joint Residents Committee president Abdul Razak Mohamed Jalil were clogged drains along Jalan SS7/26, potholes on roads, trimming of overgrown trees, faulty traffic lights, crime rates and mosquito breeding areas at empty lots around their housing area.

Zakaria was quick to reply on the crime situation area and suggested that residents could start working together by getting to know one another better and their activities to help bring down the rate.

“We do not have enough manpower to do patrolling as often as we want to, but residents can start working together and possibly start the community policing scheme as proposed some time back,” said Zakaria.

MBPJ councillor Ahmad Yusof Ludin who chaired the meeting said he was satisfied with the developer’s briefing as the residents now knew what they could expect when works at the site begin. He also urged the residents to begin working on the community policing scheme as soon as possible after the long delay.
