Minangkabau-style roof attracts visitors at World Expo

SHANGHAI: It was a chance to shine on the world stage and the Malaysia Pavilion did the country proud here yesterday.
The vibrant colours used and the Minangkabau roof did its job in attracting attention, with Chinese visitors saying they liked what they saw.
“I really felt the rich culture of Malaysia,’’ said Luo Yi who came from Hunang province.
Chen Jiarong of Shanghai said: “I had a really good impression of Malaysia. We could see almost everything that Malaysia offers here.”
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, who opened the Malaysia Pavilion yesterday, said the ministry was discussing with a local authority in Jiangsu province to move the pavilion to Wuxi city after the expo.
“Wuxi has a park that exhibits some of the most beautiful architectures and I see it as a way to promote Malaysia,’’ she added.
Meanwhile, eight Tourism Ministry dancers captivated hearts with their various local dances during the opening.
They said they wanted visitors to the Malaysia Pavilion to be charmed by the country’s rich and diverse culture.
“We want to promote Malaysia’s dances from different ethnic groups to the whole world,” dancer Arif Khuzairi Ramlee said.
Despite the 11th hour preparations, Malaysian exhibitors at the pavilion managed to beat the deadline to complete their decorations for yesterday’s opening.
“We got it done just in time. There are just some touch-ups to do at the sales booths,” said Wan Rusmein Wan Mohd Nor from Karyaneka.
The expo themed “Better City, Better Life showcases innovations and technology from more than 200 countries, regions and organisations, and is aimed at improving urban living. It will go on till Oct 31.
Dr Ng expects the Malaysia Pavilion to attract 10 million visitors.
