A perfect 10 for Zehn

   Zehn Bukit Pantai

Zehn – no, the word isn’t misspelled. It actually refers to the luxury condominiums at Bukit Pantai, Bangsar. Zehn is German for number 10, which is the lot number of the site.

Works of art that are simultaneously cerebral and decorative are seen at the exterior and interior of Zehn Bukit Pantai, a joint development among CapitaLand, Juta Asia Properties Sdn Bhd and Pantai Holdings Berhad.

Walk in to Zehn Bukit Pantai, and you will feel like you are in a modern tropical paradise that offers the finer things in life. The well-planned development utilises a healthy combination of unique installations and meticulously-selected materials from all over the globe.

Calm oasis

One of Zehn’s conversation pieces is a sculpture by Eng Tay, a Malaysian artist who is based in New York. The bronze sculpture of a rotund lady weighs 512kg (the weight of approximately five elephant calves!) and is located smack dab in the centre of the circular driveway. It is entitled Resting and is valued at RM1.5mil.

American landscape architect Karl W. Princic is the man responsible for Zehn’s beautiful landscaping. Princic, who is based in Bali, Indonesia envisioned a harmonious environment for Zehn. Having lived in Bali since 1990, the cultural influences of the laidback island lifestyle is evident in his work.

“Our design philosophy emphasises simplicity, subtlety and a concern for appropriate design solutions in planning, softscape and hardscape (which is in line) with the Indonesian sense of proportion, detail and creativity,” explains Princic.

At Zehn, every detail is carefully considered…even the selection of plants. A symphony of frangipanis and spider lilies greet you as you enter the central garden and its surrounding pool area. Meanwhile, the pearl grass in the garden is perfect for children to play on or for residents to have a picnic.

Stroll along the pool and you’ll find five wooden cabanas made of cengal hardwood. In addition, dotting the poolside is Gandia Blasco furniture from Spain while the pool itself is tiled with distinctive-coloured Keradol tiles from Thailand.

Lush greeneries surrounding the perimeter complete the modern tropical concept. Furthermore, the natural dense Malaysian forest beyond the perimeter complements the peaceful and calm Zehn ambience.

An equipped kitchen

The actual Zehn kitchen designed by Angelena Chan based on Cheong Liew's specifications.

Every condo unit comes with a dry and wet kitchen designed by Cheong Liew, a Malaysian-born Australian chef. The kitchens may be cosmopolitan, but their main feature is actually a quaint herb garden or trough. “I have always wanted to have a real kitchen done my way. Put in a good pantry, lots of cupboards, hideaway space and efficient equipment that give off a feel-good environment. Basically a great kitchen that makes a really nice home,” says Liew, who has always liked the idea of growing one’s own herbs.

Liew, a self-taught chef who resides in Adelaide, worked with Zehn’s interior design consultant, Angelena Chan when designing the kitchens. Both Liew and Chan believe that the kitchen should be functional as it is the pulse of the home.

The kitchens are fitted with branded accessories. They include a ceramic induction hob, microwave oven, multi-function oven and refrigerator in the dry kitchen. Meanwhile, the wet kitchen is equipped with a dish washing machine, waste disposal unit and a second refrigerator. There is even a television set and DVD player in the dry kitchen while a washing machine and dryer are installed in the drying yard.

The result of the collaboration is a kitchen that has Liew’s selections of specialised equipment and appliances, and Chan’s taste of contemporary art such as paintings by Malaysian artist, Dr Jolly Koh.

Home chic home

Undoubtedly, Zehn is one of the more prestigious property developments in the Bangsar-Bukit Pantai enclave.

British investor Bill Chidgey invested in five Zehn units because he was impressed with the “comprehensive package”.

Meanwhile, businesswoman Datin Saras was impressed by the show unit and decided to purchase one on the 18th floor. “The layout is well-planned. The design is sleek and all units come with built-in wardrobes and a well-designed kitchen,” she says.

With so much going for Zehn, it’s little wonder that this luxury real estate development has kicked off with nothing less than a perfect 10.
