PEKAN: While the plan to develop Kuala Pahang here as a mixed development project is in the pipeline, UDA Holdings Berhad is also focusing on its social responsibility commitment to build houses under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Project (PR1MA) in the same vicinity.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah said discussions were ongoing for both projects to start soon and UDA preferred it to be conducted in a win-win manner, where both high and middle income groups would reap the benefits.
He said the mixed development project, consisting of bungalows and semi-D houses, and the 1,500 units of PR1MA houses would be built on a 207 ha piece of land, expected to be completed within five years.
“This is part of our commitment to the people and the Government to provide houses for the middle income group with our PR1MA housing project where we expect the houses to cost below RM200,000 for each unit.
“Meanwhile, the bungalows and semi-D houses will cost above RM200,000 for each unit. We are targeting buyers from Kuantan. Since the travel time from Pekan to Kuantan is within 30 minutes, they can own houses here and travel to Kuantan to work.
“The locals or those who work in Pekan town can still have the opportunity to own affordable houses under PR1MA,” Dr Mohd Shafei said after attending a breaking of fast event with orphans at the AnCasa Royale hotel here.
Some 50 orphans from Rumah Anak Yatim Furqan and Rumah Anak Yatim dan Miskin Perempuan Darussalam Al-Mukhtar were entertained in the programme and later received duit raya from the company.
Dr Shafei also said the UDA Holdings-owned AnCasa Royale Hotel here is targeting an increase of between 10 to 15 percent in room occupancy this year in conjunction with the Visit Pahang Year 2017 campaign.
He said the current occupancy rate was within 50 percent and to have an increase was possible with the development of the royal town of Pekan.
