Born Down Under
First launced in Sydney back in 1993, followed by two other showrooms in Melbourne and Brisbane respectively, Space is a venue where creativity meets superb quality. Of course given the price tags, this is not the place for everyone.
Space ventured into the Asian market in 2001 with a flagship store in Singapore’s Milenia Walk. It was the success of the Singapore outlet that prompted the opening of Space Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, in 2007. Space Bangsar is located in a two-storey bungalow along Jalan Maarof. What used to be a stand-alone bungalow now functions as a showroom for luxury furniture and furnishing products from all over the world.
Local architects Benson Saw and Voon Wong, in collaborations with Design Stream that is in charge for the interiors, took inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s deep apertures and solid masonry base. The result is a stunning, modern looking 5,000 sq. ft. showroom that has become a landmark within the vicinity of Bangsar.
A taste of originality
Staying true to its business philosophy, Space Bangsar offers a wide range of furniture and furnishing products from top-notch international brands from Sweden, Denmark and Italy, among other countries.

Catering to high-end market, it is no secret that the products offered in Space do not come cheap. Furniture enthusiast and design aficionado may well appreciate the products offered here, despite the jaw-dropping price tags. But the big question remains: are Malaysians ready for such products?
“The response has been great in Malaysia. In fact, the first year we operated, the sale figures in our Bangsar outlet outdid the one in Singapore!” says Jennifer Soh, senior marketing officer of Space Singapore. Although catering to a very niche market, Soh is certain that in the market is ready for high-end furniture and furnishing range.
“There will always be a high end market,” she maintains.
Designers galore
It is no doubt that Space, with five branches operated from Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, is a one-stop shopping point for designer furniture and furnishing pieces in Asia Pacific. Leading international design houses with noted designers are represented by Space, namely B&B Italia, Fritz Hansen, Carl Hansen, MOOI, Poliform, Giorgetti, Varenna, Vitra, Kartell and Flos.
Under these brands are design luminaries such as Philip Starck, Patricia Urquiola, Chi Wing Lo and Hiromichi Konno. Closer to home, Malaysia’s very own Benson Saw, too, sells his pieces at Space.

For its distinguished range of quality products, a few prestigious property developers have commissioned Space to be in charge of interior decorating projects. Take for example, the ultra exclusive Amarin Wickham, that had recently launched 21 units of luxurious condominium unit in a low-density expatriate area near Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) area.
This development, which is built on ‘nature concept’, promises an array of green features such as from its architecture, landscape planning, down to the selection of interiors.
To complement the plush interior and keeping with the environmental theme, Space installed Ubik and Graffiti wardrobes by Italian design brand Poliform and Alea Kitchen from Varenna by Poliform are chosen for the bedrooms and kitchens. Products offered by Space suits everything about Amarin Wickham: luxurious, eco-friendly and prestigious.
So back to our first question: Got some cash to spurge on the best that money can buy? We suggest you spend it at the best place possible, like Space.
