RESIDENTS of Jalan Air Panas Baharu, Setapak, are tired of fending off snakes and other reptiles from an abandoned house along the road.
The house has been empty for more than 10 years after the last known owner died in a nursing home due to old age.
Immediate neighbour Sarjit Singh, 68, said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had been sending the assessment notices to the empty house.
“They keep sending assessment reminders to the house but there is no one here. They also send notices to clean up the area,” he said.
His son, Jasdeep Singh, 29, an accounts manager, has lodged several complaints to the DBKL but no action has been taken.
“They came and cut the grass a few days ago but did not clear the area.

“The grass is now clogging the drains and it is an ideal place for mosquitoes to breed,” Jasdeep said.
To make matters worse, noises can be heard from the house, leading the neighbours to believe that the place has become a den for drug addicts.
A check by StarMetro showed that the house was in a terrible state and all the wiring had been removed by people looking for a quick buck. Piles of burnt rubbish could also be seen on the floor.
The walls and doors are infested with termties and the roof is falling apart.
“If this place catches fire, our house would go up in flames as well. It is dangerous for all of us,” Jasdeep said.
Sarjit said they would not mind buying over the house but they had to do it the right way.
When contacted DBKL said they would check on the matter to decide on the best course of action.
