MORE than 10,000 residents in Bandar Botanic, Klang, were forced to put up the night without electricity after a power failure caused a blackout on Sunday night.

The power cut occurred at 10.45pm and lasted till 4am on Monday. In the mean time, mobile generators were dispatched to restore electricity supply to the homes in the township.

The power supply disruption affected residents from five of the six precincts in Bandar Botanic. The five precincts are Cassia, Bidara, Bungur, part of Jenaris and part of Kiara.

Unaware of the extent of the disruption, many of the residents were seen hanging out at stalls, thinking that power would resume soon. But that did not happen.

Football fans especially those wanting to catch the Carling Cup final match between Manchester United and Aston Villa were also disappointed.

“I had to look for a mamak restaurant to catch the final after realising that the power cut was going to be long,’’ said Thomas Chan.

Residents said they were caught by surprise by the power cut as no notice was issued by TNB.

A resident said they were informed by TNB staff when contacted through the hotline that the power cut was due to technical problem experienced by its station in Pandamaran.

“The staff told me that it will take several hours before we can have electricity in our homes,” said 35-year-old Tan Hock Choy

Another resident T. Rajah said it was unacceptable that the power cut had lasted for so many hours.

He said it had caused a lot of inconvenience to the residents especially those with small children.

“We had a sleepless night and the hot weather that we are experiencing now did not help the situation either,” he said.

A TNB Port Klang spokesman said the power cut was caused by an unexpected breakdown that occurred in Bandar Parklands which was under the same transitional line with Bandar Botanic.

He said TNB was carrying out load-setting work when they

suddenly experienced the breakdown.

“Three sub-stations in Bandar Botanic have been also upgraded and we apologise for the inconvenience caused,’’ he added.
