Boy killed, another injured in excavator mishap

A 14-year-old was killed while his friend injured his leg in Lubok Cina, Alor Gajah, after an eight-tonne excavator they were playing on toppled over on Saturday, Kosmo! reported.

The deceased, Mohamad Aiman Derus, and two other friends were playing in a padi field near where the excavator was parked. Its engine was running and there was no sign of the operator.

A police spokesman said Mohamad Aiman and Mohd Izwan Mustafa, 10, was climbing onto the driver’s seat when the excavator suddenly toppled over.

Mohamad Aiman sustained multiple head and body injuries while Mohd Izwan’s right leg was almost severed. Mohd Izwan was rushed to Hospital Melaka for treatment.

Alor Gajah police chief Supt Umar Ali Shaifuddin Shaharuddin confirmed the incident and asked witnesses to contact the nearest police station.

The machine operator has been arrested by police to assist in investigations.

> Metro Ahad carried a story about masseuses who were cheated by their employers.

One of them, who only wanted to be known as Camelia, 27, said she fled after being cheated by her employer throughout her three-month stint at the massage parlour.

She claimed that she was made to sign a 10-month contract and had to agree to a RM400 monthly deduction.

“I was made to understand that the money was to serve as a back-up in case the premises was raided or if I was detained by religious authorities or police,” she added.
