Poor drainage delays opening of Keriang village complex
ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Government has blamed poor drainage for the delay in opening the traditional Malay village complex at the foot of Gunung Keriang.
State Tourism Development, Indian and Siamese Community Welfare Committee chairman S. Manikumar said the complex did not have a proper drainage system.
“Keriang Hill Resort Sdn Bhd, which was appointed to manage and conduct repair work last year, found many other problems.
“I will meet with the company directors to discuss the matter and if they have difficulties carrying out the repairs, we will seek a solution, including roping in a state government-linked company to help,” he said.
Manikumar was commenting on the disappointment expressed by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen over the RM6.4mil complex which had fallen into a state of disrepair after it was handed to the state government in 2008.
Keriang Hill Resort manager Wan Muazzam Wan Ismail has said that his company had been tasked by the Kedah Government to carry out repairs.
Work is expected to start this month and about RM2mil would be needed to repair the facilities and amenities.
The complex consists of 16 traditional wooden houses, a multi-purpose hall and a cafe.
It was reported in July that the opening of the complex had been delayed indefinitely due to high repair costs.
