Ministry to build more futsal courts
KLUANG: The Youth and Sports Ministry will build an additional three futsal courts in each parliamentary constituency following overwhelming response to the sport by the country’s youths.
Deputy Minister Senator Gan Ping Siew said the additional courts would be built by the end of the year after a study is done to find suitable locations for them. There are now 1,200 1Malaysia Futsal courts nationwide.
“Many Malaysian youths have taken to futsal. The creation of more futsal courts will also indirectly promote unity among the youth,” he told a press conference yesterday on the 1Youth 1Malaysia Futsal League to be held in Kluang soon.
Gan said the new courts would cost between RM150,000 and RM160,000 each.
“Our officials will have to look into land availability and soil suitability to build the courts especially in the rural areas,” he said.
Gan said that due to the popularity of futsal, the sport would be one of the main community-related sporting activity which the ministry would focus on.
On a separate matter, Gan said that after a recent dialogue session, he was concerned over the ability of Chinese youth to grasp the national language.
“The language barrier is one of the reasons why many youngsters are having problems mingling with the other races. We need to look seriously into that. Racial integration should start at a young age,” he added.
