THE Property Management Division (BPH) of the Prime Minister’s Department will not extend its Dec 31 deadline for residents of the Jalan Cochrane government quarters to move out.
The division, in a statement yesterday, said the seven months’ notice from May 5 was sufficient time for the residents to move out as the General Rules of Order Chapter E 5(b) states that the Government may require government officers to vacate the quarters in a month.
Residents with children who are sitting for major examinations from October to December are allowed to postpone their move until Dec 15. Others who have valid reasons can apply for a postponement of evacuation until Dec 31.
The residents had earlier complained that the duration given to move out was too short.
BPH had also relocated 16 residents who have chronic illnesses and disabilities, including disabled Khusaini Saimon, 54, to government quarters in Jalan Duta and Jalan U-Thant, which still had available units.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall is also willing to help relocate 47 residents and apply for vacant public housing project homes, while 82 residents who said they intended to move to Putrajaya have been offered quarters.
BPH also rejected the RM5,000 compensation for each family as proposed by Cuepacs president Omar Osman, saying the Government had the right to take back quarters provided in accordance with regulations in force.
