TUN Hamdan Foundation, which was incorporated in 2003 to commemorate the services and contributions of the late Tun Dr Hamdan Sheikh Tahir, will build its own building in Ipoh soon.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said the building would be built on a 0.8ha piece of land at the corner of Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Star), which had been approved by the state government recently.
“We are discussing the land premium payment with the state government and currently a company has been appointed to conduct the feasibility study on the project,” he told reporters after presenting Hari Raya aid to students and orphanage homes at the school on Thursday.
Awang Adek, who is also the Deputy Finance Minister, said the ground floor of the building would be rented to an anchor tenant as a source of income to finance the foundation’s operation.
“We have given priority to Bank Sim-panan Nasional to become one of the anchor tenants and we also hope a fast food ope-rator will also become another tenant there,” he said, adding that the upper level of the building should house the foundation office.
The foundation was named after Dr Hamdan, who was the Yang di-Pertua Negri of Penang from 1989 to 2001 and Star’s first principal from 1957 to 1960.
A total of 60 poor students from nine schools and four orphanages received their contributions from Awang Adek, who is a former student of Star, at the function.
