Bandar Puchong Jaya folk irked by illegal dumping and open burning

Vandalism: The fence of the park is cut.

RESIDENTS of Bandar Puchong Jaya Phase 1, Puchong, want the authorities to put a stop to the persisting illegal dumping and open burning problems near their homes.

Led by residents association chairman Albert Teo, around 20 residents gathered at the site, a park between Jalan Merak 1 and Jalan Puchong, to highlight the problems to Puchong MCA division chairman Wong Hock Aun and division secretary Liew Yew Fook.

They said the indiscriminate dumping of domestic and industrial rubbish had turned the area into a mosquito-breeding ground, and the residents could not bear to go near that side of the park.

“The fencing of the park has been cut and rubbish is thrown on both sides of the fence.

“When we complained to the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), they said only the park is within their jurisdiction while the land next to the park belongs to the Public Works Department (JKR),” Teo said.

Beer bottles, polystyrene containers, rubbish bins, wooden crate, etc, were scattered all over the place and the trunk of a tree was scorched due to the illegal burning.

There were also rattan baskets, wooden boards and sticks discarded just a little further away from the park.

A committee member, Susan Leong, said the residents had to call the Fire and Rescue Department when they spotted the burning.

Leong tried to take photos of the culprits at the end of last year.

“One of them picked up a wooden stick and made threatening gestures, trying to scare me,” she said.

The residents hoped the relevant authorites would clean up the rubbish and extend the guard rail along Jalan Puchong to stop the culprits from getting into the area.

Wong said he would forward their complaints to MPSJ and JKR as soon as possible.
