Peace and quiet, please
I read with great bewilderment and disappointment the press statement from Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (Litrak) that it was still awaiting the final word from Selangor Government to use the green lung along Jalan SS21/31 and SS21/44 of Damansara Utama to build a slip road for the ongoing TTDI-Kepong underpass project.
The green lung falls under the jurisdiction of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
A dialogue was initiated by MBPJ with the residents along these two roads on June 12 to discuss Litrak’s proposal to make use of our gazetted green lung.
The residents had unanimously rejected the request to use this green lung any further.
Some of the mature trees had already been chopped down in the past, thereby removing our barrier against noise and air pollution.
On behalf of the residents, I would like to ask MBPJ whether it is intending to go against the residents’ wishes by “leasing” this green lung to Litrak?
Do remember the policies and slogans of 1Malaysia — People First — and the preservation of parks and greenery is vital to combat global warming.
To Litrak, spare a thought for the people who live along these roads and the elderly who have hoped to enjoy their twilight years in peace and quiet here.
The oppressed and dejected residents of SS21/31 and SS21/44
