Talks worth investing your time
THE Star Property Fair is around the corner, offering a multitude of options for both investors and potential home-owners. But making the right choice is never as straightforward as it seems.
Arm yourselves with vital insights into the property market at one of the talks to be held at G Hotel’s function room on Level 2 in conjunction with the three-day fair starting Friday, and make well-informed decisions that ensure your investment is a sound one.
On Saturday at 6pm, chairman of the executive committee of investPenang board and director of the Penang Development Corporation, Datuk Lee Kah Choon, will deliver a talk titled ‘Positioning Penang as the Premier Real Estate Investment Destination’.
His presentation will explore investment options in real estate on the island, and its outlook. Reports on the current status, in terms of transactions, stocks and take-up rates will also be discussed.
“Real estate has and will always play a major role in the development of Penang. Being one of the smaller states in Malaysia, coupled with rich history and economic progress, Penang possesses a certain charm and attraction to investors in the property sector,” Lee said.
According to him, market trends and major property projects in the state, both by private developers and government agencies, will indicate the direction of the development of this sector.
On the island, organic growth has led to the expansion of townships to newer areas in the south-west, such as Balik Pulau and Bayan Lepas while the award of the Unesco World Heritage Site status has expedited the revitalisation of inner George Town, bringing new life and businesses of international standards to the inner city.
On the state government’s part, a number of significant property projects have been launched recently for open tenders.
Lee foresees that the implementation of these projects will likely value add and enhance the overall “work, play and live” climate here in Penang.
“In its quest to be an international city, Penang aspires to be a location of choice for investors, a destination of choice for visitors and a habitat of choice for those who subscribe to sustainable living,” he added.
Expatriates living on the island might also want to attend Spiral Synergy Sdn Bhd director Michelle Grimsley’s talk, ‘Property Investment in Penang – An Expat’s Perspective’ on Friday at 6pm.
The former president of the International Women’s Association has lived on the island for the past four and a half years, and knows full well what makes it such an attractive proposition for foreigners.
“I have had many good friends or contacts moving over here and buying properties, and it’s interesting to know why many expatriates are choosing Penang over somewhere else,” Grimsley said.
She added that her talk would also examine what types of property they are buying and why they are doing so, while also touching on the future outlook, where potential limiting factors might cause them to move away.
