Traffic situation on LDP near TTDI under control
MORE motorists are now using the newly completed ramp on the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) near Taman Tun Dr Ismail and the traffic situation is improving.
Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (Litrak) communications head Bhavani Krishna Iyer said the situation was under control now as users were using the bridge as opposed to the Jalan SS21/31 slip road previously.
When it was first opened on June 16, Bhavani admitted there were confusion as regular road users were still using Jalan SS21/31 to get to Bandar Utama and Kepong without realising the ramp had opened.
Many cars were seen queuing up at the slip road and eventually taking the illegal left turn onto the road heading towards Bandar Utama and Kepong which was meant for traffic from TTDI.
However, she said on the third day of operations, the situation improved and more motorists were seen using the ramp instead.
“We have been monitoring the situation at the interchange and there are definitely fewer cars doing the illegal turn now,” said Bhavani.
Last week, a reader wrote to StarMetro, to complain that the interchange had posed a great danger to him one morning.
In his email, the reader said he was travelling towards TTDI’s Kiara Park for his morning exercise.
On his way there, he saw a long trailer emerge out of Jalan SS21/56 and its driver tried to cross over a two-lane traffic to get onto the newly completed bridge from the junction.
She said Litrak had noted the problem and had began introducing several temporary measures such as placing plastic barricades at the junction of Jalan SS21/56 as well as along the bridge separating it from the Jalan SS21/31 slip road.
“In another week or two the 150-metre concrete divider and flexi posts on the bridge will be ready and we hope it will help solve the problem,” said Bhavani.
Those who are exiting from the Jalan SS21/56 junction will have to make a U-turn in Jalan SS21/31, while road users in Damansara Uptown heading towards Bandar Utama and Kepong should use the Jalan SS21/23 exit instead.
Signboards, banners and Variable Message System boards have also been placed along the highway leading towards the bridge before it was opened.
Bhavani said the final phase of the interchange project had started, however, the building of a two-lane underpass for traffic coming from TTDI heading to Kepong, bypassing the current traffic lights has yet to begin.
She said Litrak was still awaiting the final word from the state government to use the land located in Jalan SS21/31 and Jalan SS21/44 that fell under the Petaling Jaya City Council jurisdiction to build a slip road.
The entire project is expected to be completed by mid-2011. For enquiries, call the 24-hour hotline 03-7494 7333.
