A COMMUNITY hall in Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan, that was previously used by a political party as a hostel for foreign workers will now be turned into a dialysis centre, Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah said.
“Residents in the area claim that foreign workers have been staying at the hall for 10 years,” he said.
Subang Jaya municipal councillor Ng Sze Han added that the hall was built on state government-owned land.
Ng, who is also the Zone 23 JKP (residents committee) chairman, has received complaints from residents who fear for their safety with foreign workers living near them.
“The residents saw female and male workers going in and out the premises and they are wondering why foreign workers are allowed to reside in a government-owned property.
“We asked the previous JKP chairman to hand over the premises but he refused. We obtained a letter from the Land Office and the council has issued them numerous notices since last year. We gave them ample time to move out.
“The workers only moved out two months ago,” he said.
He received a request from St. John’s Ambulance (Selangor) for the hall to be used as a dialysis centre.
“They are using RM1mil for the centre, including RM100,000 to renovate the back compound for the filter system. All costs will be borne by St. John’s.
“It will be launched in June. The premises can accommodate 12 dialysis machines but they will start off with three units,” he said.
