Company opens fitness centre for its employees

BERJAYA Sports Toto Berhad has officially opened a fitness centre named Sports Toto Fitness Centre for the use of all Berjaya Group employees.
The ST Fitness Centre is one of the Group’s corporate social responsibility initiatives in the workplace to promote a healthy lifestyle and well-being of employees.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Wira Chor Chee Heung, who launched the fitness centre, commended Berjaya for its proactive role in creating a healthy working environment for its employees.
“Employees are the assets of an organisation, and by providing a conducive work environment, the organisation will encourage higher productivity and job satisfaction, and give its employees a sense of work-life balance and fulfillment.
“This is a true reflection of a forward-thinking company which adopts a proactive role in creating a healthy working environment for its employees,” he said.
The setting up of the gym facility for the employees was mooted by Tan Sri Vincent Tan, chairman and CEO of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, who himself exercises regularly to maintain his fitness.
“By working out together, employees will also be able to motivate and encourage each other in their fitness regime as well as share tips on health related issues.
“It will also cultivate more team spirit and bonding between employees and contribute to better working relationships overall,” he said.
Located on the sixth floor of Berjaya Times Square and occupying a sizeable area of 16,000sq ft, the Group had incurred RM3.8mil to equip the fitness centre with world class equipment including 34 cardiovascular machines from Life Fitness which consist of treadmills, steppers, stationary bikes, cross trainers and one of the world’s most popular rowers, the Concept 2. It also has a complete and spacious free weights area and an array of pin-loaded weight machines and cable cross-over machines.
ST Fitness Centre also features an impressive in-house entertainment system of up to 12 entertainment channels on the cardio machines, sauna and steam rooms as well as three sizable Group Exercise studios – the Body and Mind Yoga Zen studio, the multi-function Viva Studio and the ultra sleek Spin Studio, each able to accommodate up to 30 people per class.
Certified professional trainers are on hand to provide training and guidance to the members.
Tan said, “Staff welfare has been accorded high priority in Berjaya. We are constantly striving to improve the quality of life in the workplace by focusing on our employees’ well-being and career development through regular health talks, free health screenings, as well as training and development programmes on a regular basis for the benefit of the employees.”
“We are currently looking at the possibility of setting up a child care centre to provide quality and affordable childcare for the children of employees.
“It will also give employees the opportunity to play a greater role in their children’s development,” he added.
Berjaya is also involved in other aspects of CSR such as supporting the community at large. Over the years, the Group has contributed generously to many charitable institutions and worthy causes.
The Group has also embarked on promoting literacy among underprivileged children by setting up mini libraries and recreation corners in children’s homes.
