MBSA to crack the whip

THE Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will be starting an operation to confiscate the assets of property owners who have not been paying maintenance fees for 10 to 15 years, said Shah Alam mayor Mazalan Md Noor.

“One of the reasons for the lack of cleanliness in high-rise residential buildings are the problems related to the payment of maintenance fees to the JMB (Joint Management Body).

“Another reason is the communication problem between the residents and the MC (management committee),” said Mazalan, who was speaking at a gotong-royong programme in Taman Sri Muda in Section 25, Shah Alam.

“However, it does not help that a large number of foreigners staying in the three apartment blocks here don’t care much about cleanliness.

“At the end of the day, it boils down to the residents’ level of awareness and attitude, as cleanliness is a common responsibility.”

On the programme, Mazalan said it had a two-pronged approach — to clean up Taman Sri Muda and identify it as a Clean Zone, and to bring down the number of dengue cases.

The gotong-royong was organised by the MBSA in collaboration with Zone 9 MPP (residents’ representative council), with the cooperation of Alam Flora, traders association and residents association.

MBSA councillor and Zone 9 MPP chairman Sabastine Rao Pragasam said among the activities carried out were cleaning up the grounds and drains around the Taman Sri Muda market and Valencia, Mediterranean and Zone B apartments, clearing rubbish and cutting grass.

“The focus today is on the main problem areas, but the MBSA will also be getting contractors to clean the parks and playgrounds.

Sri Muda assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei said the MBSA would also be carrying out landscaping work like trimming overgrown or untidy plants, installing additional lighting at Bulatan Budiman and Bulatan Aman, and planting more decorative plants along the roads.

“The cleanliness in Taman Sri Muda is better now since the Clean Zone programme started more than a year ago.

“There is now a regular cleaning schedule and more frequent monitoring of the area,” said Shuhaimi.

Meanwhile, Pragasam said the Zone 9 MPP would be organising a “Pesta Sukaneka” this Sunday from 8am till 1pm.
