Tow truck causes more congestion than illegally parked vehicle
RECENTLY, I noticed an incident where a huge tow truck was having a tough time manoeuvring through a one-way street junction in PJ New Town, just to winch up a car to tow away.
Apparently, the car was left behind by a motorist who was, perhaps, in a hurry to keep an appointment and so desperate that he had no option but to leave the vehicle there.
This incident played itself out during the lunch hour.
I noticed that the car was in no way causing any obstruction to moving traffic in the area and yet it was not spared.
The point is, it is not so much about how and where the car was parked or what happened to it, because other motorists caught in the jam were more concerned about the inconveniences and frustrations caused by the tow truck operator.
This was because they had to wait for him to fully clear the car before they could continue with their journeys.
Obviously, there was no turning back inside a one-way street — especially with a long line of cars behind.
The authorities should have just slapped a compound notice on the car as it was not in the way.
Also, the authorities should not rent out public car parks and should withdraw those already rented since there is a shortage.
If this happens, there will be more chances for motorists to find a legal parking spot and solve the problem of cars being dumped at illegal parking lots.
This would also mean there would not be a need for the tow truck to cause a jam.
MBPJ is the one at fault for not being able to provide much-needed public car parks.
