Eyesore: Residents of Desa Kiara Condominium hopes to find a solution pertaining to the illegal dump site.

RESIDENTS of Desa Kiara Condominium in Petaling Jaya are deeply concerned over an illegal dumpsite near the area.
The situation is becoming worse as the days go by, with construction materials, domestic waste as well as plastic and other materials being dumped there.
Homemaker Lim Poh Poh, 60, said the problem had been on-going for some years now.
She said Alam Flora Sdn Bhd had placed bins there but they were taken away as more people started to dump their garbage there.
“The dumping is clearly done by individuals and contractors, gauging from the rubbish. It seems to be an easy way out for these people.
“Although Alam Flora comes to clear the place, it has never been completely free of rubbish.
“This is partly due to the rubbish collection system, which needs improvement, as well as the human mentality — when one person starts to dump there, the rest follows,” she said.
She added that whenever the wind blew, the stench from the site would waft to the condominium.
Desa Kiara manager S. Bala, 50, said they had reported the problem to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
He said the MBPJ had forwarded the complaint to Alam Flora Selangor but the latter said the area came under Kuala Lumpur.
“The road along which the dumpsite is located borders Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.
“But the dumpsite is definitely under the MBPJ’s jurisdiction and not Kuala Lumpur’s,” he said, adding that Alam Flora Selangor might have been confused over the border.
The residents suggested that the MBPJ could do some landscaping in the area to deter people from dumping their rubbish there.
