Major construction work for the Kelana Jaya LRT Line Extension Project (LEP) along Persiaran Kewajipan in Subang Jaya will start on Feb 27 and end in December.
The work covers a 3km stretch from USJ 2 to USJ 15.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) said no road would be closed throughout the construction period.
“The three lanes on each side of the road will be maintained,” she said at a press conference to notify residents and motorists on the commencement of work for the project.
Also present were representatives from Prasarana and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
“At least two lanes will remain open if the contractor needs to close one lane.
“Of the three main pedestrian bridges along the affected stretch, only the one connecting USJ 6 to Subang Perdana Goodyear Court 3 will be relocated. The bridges near Summit USJ and Sekolah Wawasan will not be affected,” Yeoh said.
She said 135 trees would be felled for the project.
“MPSJ has told Prasarana to replant 10 trees for each one that will be felled.
“During the construction period, Prasarana will temporarily manage the timing of the traffic lights.
“After work is completed, Prasarana will carry out sound level tests to determine the sites that need sound barriers and have the roads resurfaced,” she said.
Prasarana will also place signboards in the work area with the contact details should the public need to call in cases of emergency and have supervisors on site to ensure the safety aspect of the project.
Kelana Jaya Line Extension Project head Faudzilah Razali said the work covered a 200m stretch along Persiaran Kewajipan, Persiaran Murni Interchange, Sekolah Wawasan and Subang Perdana Goodyear Court 3.
Yeoh said the state government would cooperate with Prasarana to ensure that the project took off smoothly without inconveniencing the residents.
She called upon Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor to expedite the upgrading work to alleviate the traffic congestion at the Kewajipan/Kesas Inter-change.
During a site visit at the Kewajipan Interchange last year, Shaziman had announced that about RM70mil would be spent to alleviate the bottleneck, which included the construction of two U-turns and changing the four-phase lights.
The 17km LRT line extension from Kelana Jaya will have 13 new stations and will pass through Subang Jaya and USJ before ending at Putra Heights.
Faudzilah said the LRT LEP was expected to be completed and operational by December 2014.
Yeoh also urged Subang Jaya residents to view the proposed amendments to the MPJS’s Local Plan 2020 before the March 19 objection deadline.
“Of the 11 changes in the Subang Jaya state constituency there are two major ones for Subang Ria Park and SS19,” she said.
“The commercial status for Subang Ria Park will be revoked and retained for recreational use, as per the decision made by the Appeals Board last year.
“A change has been made to a 9.42 acre (3.81ha) site in SS19 that belongs to the PKNS (Selangor State Development Corporation). Under the PKNS title, the site is gazetted as residential.
“MPSJ’s Planning Department has confirmed that no applications have been made for the site that was previously gazetted as open space or recreational.”
However, the SS19/1 Residents Association want the site to be retained as an open space.
“We will be getting residents to file their objections.
“There is already an influx of development in the area, and we would like the green space retained,” said association vice chairman Chin Fook Khiang.
