Lightning strikes again at Pangsapuri Mega Indah

Precarious position: Pangsapuri Mega Indah maintenance worker Syed Shahrizal, 31, trying to fix the roof that was damaged by the lightning.

The recent lightning incident at Pangsapuri Mega Indah, Ampang has left the residents with damaged roofs and restless minds.

The incident also resulted in falling debris damaging four cars.

Apartment Joint Management Body (JMB) chairman Husin Ahmad said the incident took place at about 3pm last week.

“It was drizzling when I heard the sound of thunder. Not long after that, there was a bright flash of light and a loud noise. We discovered later that lightning had struck the roof, causing it to break,” he said.

Husin said this was not the first time this had happened to the three-year-old apartment.

“It has been happening every year since I moved in here. The damage is not bad as the apartment units’ ceiling are separate from the roof but this is worrying. It’s pure luck that no one has been hurt so far,” he said.

Nurkhalida Azua Yusof, 29, a clerk with the apartment management, said the incident took her by surprise.

“I was shocked to see all the debris from the damaged roof. One car had its entire windshield smashed while the others had large dents due to the falling debris,” she said, adding that she only started working there a year ago.

Teratai Complaints Bureau chief Ben Liew said he will meet the developer of the apartment along with the JMB to find a solution to this problem.

“If there is a lightning conductor installed, it may not be working correctly and if there is none, the developer should consider installing one.” he said.

On another matter, Selangor Gerakan along with its Teratai Coordinating Office will host a Chinese New Year open house this Sunday.

“This grand event, possibly the largest we have had so far, will be held at the Dataran Pandan Perdana Lake Club from 3pm to 6pm. All are invited,” Selangor Gerakan liaison chairman and Deputy Foreign Minister A Kohilan Pillay said at a press conference, adding that Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon would also be attending the event.

He said they were expecting a crowd of between 3,000 and 5,000 and urged the various attending branch chairmen to use the opportunity to strengthen their ties with the people.
